10 Day Rwanda And Zanzibar Beach Vacation

Overview

This 10-day trip takes you to two of Africa’s most beautiful destinations. You will start in Rwanda, a small country known as “the land of a thousand hills.” Rwanda is home to rare mountain gorillas, green forests, and friendly people. You will trek through thick jungle, walk along forest canopies, and come face to face with gorillas in the wild. After your Rwanda adventure, you will fly to Zanzibar, a tropical island off the coast of Tanzania. Here you will relax on white sandy beaches, swim with dolphins, and explore the historic streets of Stone Town. This is a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive in Kigali – Drive to Nyungwe Forest

When you land in Kigali, your tour guide will meet you at the airport. You will take a short city tour around Kigali to learn about Rwanda and see the city. After the tour, you will drive south to Nyungwe Forest, where you will spend the night.

Day 2
Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk in Nyungwe

You will wake up early and head into Nyungwe Forest National Park. First, you will attend a short briefing, and then you will go chimpanzee trekking. The chimpanzees here are not fully used to people, so an early start gives you the best chance of finding them. In the afternoon, you can enjoy the canopy walk — a thrilling walk high above the forest floor where you can see birds and other primates. You will return to the lodge in the evening.

Day 3
Drive to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, you will leave Nyungwe and drive north to Volcanoes National Park. The drive is long but beautiful, passing through Rwanda’s green hills and small villages. You will arrive at your lodge in the late afternoon and rest for the evening.

Day 4
Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

This is one of the most exciting days of your trip. After an early breakfast, you will drive to the park entrance and begin your gorilla trek. You will walk through bamboo forests and listen to birds calling and golden monkeys chattering around you. When you find a gorilla family, you will spend time watching them eat, play, and care for their young. It is a moment you will never forget. After the trek, you will return to the lodge for lunch and a well-earned rest.

Day 5
Drive Back to Kigali

After breakfast, you will drive back to Kigali. On the way, you will enjoy another short city tour before checking into your hotel for the night.

Day 6
Fly to Zanzibar

After breakfast, you will be taken to Kigali International Airport. You will board your flight to Zanzibar with Precision Air or RwandAir. On arrival at Zanzibar Airport, you will be transferred to your beach resort or hotel. Spend the evening relaxing by the ocean.

Day 7
Beach Day – Rest and Free Time

Spend the day relaxing on the beautiful white beach, swimming in the warm Indian Ocean, or enjoying water sports. You can go snorkeling, take photos, read a book, or simply enjoy the sunshine. There is no fixed program today — just relax and enjoy paradise.

Day 8

Dolphin Tour and Stone Town

After breakfast, you will drive south to Kizimkazi fishing village for the famous dolphin excursion. This quiet village on the southern tip of the island is one of the best places in the world to see wild dolphins. You will sail out on a boat to spot bottlenose and humpback dolphins swimming freely in the sea. You may also swim and snorkel in the clear water. The tour runs in the early morning (pickup at 6:00am) or the afternoon (pickup at 2:30pm), depending on the weather. After the dolphin tour, you will drive to Stone Town for dinner and overnight.

Day 9

Explore Stone Town

After breakfast, you will spend the morning walking through Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This historic town is a beautiful mix of African, Arab, Indian, and European culture. You will see old mosques, carved wooden doors, narrow winding streets, and colorful markets. It is a great place to shop for souvenirs and local crafts. After lunch at a local restaurant, you will return to your hotel for the night.

Day 10

Fly Home

Your African adventure comes to an end today. In the afternoon, you will be taken to the airport for your flight to Dar es Salaam and then onward to your home country. We hope you take home beautiful memories from Rwanda and Zanzibar!
