This 10-Day Bwindi, Serengeti & Zanzibar safari takes you through three of East Africa’s most exciting destinations. You will trek mountain gorillas in Uganda’s Bwindi forest, watch millions of wildebeest cross Tanzania’s Serengeti plains, and finish with relaxing days on the beautiful beaches of Zanzibar. This trip combines thrilling wildlife encounters with stunning scenery and rich culture. Whether you love nature, adventure, or simply want to unwind by the ocean, this journey offers something truly special — the very best of East Africa in just ten days.
Leave Kampala early at 7:00 am and drive south for about 8 hours to reach Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The road passes through towns like Mbarara and Ntungamo, with views of the equator, green hills, banana plantations, and local village life. Stop for lunch in Mbarara along the way. Arrive at your lodge in the evening, enjoy the beautiful views of the surrounding landscape, have dinner, and rest.

Today is the highlight of your Uganda visit. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park covers 321 square kilometres of thick rainforest and is home to nearly 480 endangered mountain gorillas — more than half of all mountain gorillas left on Earth. The park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is divided into four trekking areas: Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga, and Nkuringo.
Wake up early, have breakfast, collect your packed lunch, and head to the briefing point by 7:30 am. Here, rangers explain the rules and safety guidelines before you set off. You will be placed in a small group and assigned a gorilla family. The trek through the forest can take anywhere from one to several hours depending on where the gorillas are that day. Once you find them, you get one full hour to watch them up close — feeding, playing, and going about their daily lives. It is a truly unforgettable experience. Return to the lodge afterwards to relax for the rest of the day.

Drive into Lake Manyara National Park for a morning game drive and a picnic lunch in the bush. The park sits in the Great Rift Valley and is known for its tree-climbing lions, large buffalo herds, blue monkeys, elephants, and hundreds of bird species. In the afternoon, visit the Esilalei Maasai Village to meet local women who have set up clean cooking stoves in the community — a wonderful example of grassroots change. Optionally, explore the nearby Mto wa Mbu village for a taste of local culture and food. Later, drive up the Rift Valley escarpment to your overnight lodge on the crater highlands.

Head early to Ngorongoro Crater, one of Africa’s most spectacular natural wonders. On the way, pass Olduvai Gorge, a site where very early traces of human life have been found. Ngorongoro is a collapsed ancient volcano, forming a massive natural bowl about 25 kilometres wide. Descend into the crater for a game drive through this extraordinary landscape. With one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa, the crater gives you an excellent chance of seeing the Big Five — lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino — all in one day. After lunch, drive to the central Serengeti for the night.

Spend the whole day exploring the Serengeti, Tanzania’s oldest and most famous national park. The Serengeti is home to the world’s largest land animal migration — over 1.5 million wildebeest and 200,000 zebras move across the plains each year in search of fresh grass and water. The park also has the largest population of lions in Africa, estimated at around 3,000, as well as cheetahs, leopards, spotted hyenas, wild dogs, elephants, and rare black rhinos. Drive through the open plains, rocky outcrops called kopjes, and riverine forests. Enjoy game drives and scenic views all day long.
